Marriott Reveals Top Travel Predictions

 Marriott Rewards unveiled results from a new survey they conducted on what Americans imagine the travel experience might look like in the future. And, while some predictions were rather reasonable, some were quite outside of the box. Top 10 travel predictions for the future include digital passports and face recognition, 24/7 virtual concierges, and the growth of digital payments. Wondering about the more creative predictions? Hey Girl, Can I Get Your Number? And Address And Email…

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again – mobile apps are all the rage this season. The travel industry, in particular, is really growing in the mobile app arena and the personalization opportunities are almost limitless. The caveat, however, is that in order to be effective in our efforts, users must trust us enough to share their personal information with us. Well, good news. A new study by University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management indicated that 1/3 of users are willing to share personal info via a mobile app if the app meets certain criteria. Mobile Schmobile… Said No One Ever

We get it, you are tired of hearing about “mobile”. But get over it. Jumio recently published a study that revealed that the average mobile abandonment rate is 38%. Google Hotel Ads Updates

Partners asked and Google finally delivered… kinda. Google is listening, however, and is continuing to improve the program from both a user perspective and an advertiser perspective. The recent Google Hotel Ads updates include the death of Hotel Finder and additional features that give advertisers more control on bidding and optimizations.

.Com? That’s So 1990’s – Said Marriott

Hotel giant Marriott is mixing things up with their online strategy by making an interesting move – they are going to switch out their .com site for a .marriott site. The news was announced this week via their new online branding strategy. Marriott promises that a .marriott domain will provide more reassurance for consumers that they are getting a genuine Marriott hotels experience. All Marriott affiliated websites will eventually be switched to the new domain.


The Incredibly Shrinking Hotel Room

Times are tough… the price per square foot in many markets continues to increase as rate wars continue rage. As some hotels look for ways to cut corners, many are quite literally cutting more corners by adding in more rooms, resulting in what is becoming known as the “tiny hotel” room. However, instead of seeing it as a loss of space, hotels are positioning their strategy as the trendy new way to travel. These “micro-hotels” boast more social space for dining and entertainment and more affordable rates than a traditional hotel. Brands like Pod and Yotel are leading the tiny-hotel revolution in the United States. Would you ever stay in a tiny-hotel?
